Heat Pump Startup 2040 Energy Receives Grant to Support Field Testing of Unique Heating Technology

The grant from Scale For ClimateTech and NYSERDA will fund two installations of the first-of-its-kind heat pump for homes with hot water radiators.

Bloomington, Minn., Dec. 5, 2022 – 2040 Energy, Inc., an early-stage heat pump technology startup, announced today that it has been chosen as a recipient of a $75,000 Manufacturing & Expertise-in-Residence (MEIR) Program grant from Scale For ClimateTech, a hardware technology program supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

The grant will be used to fund installation and field testing for two prototype units of 2040 Energy’s flagship residential heating product, RenewaBoiler. The installations are planned for this winter at two homes located in St. Paul, MN and Kingston, NY.

2040 Energy’s technology fills a key gap in the fight against climate change. Heating homes with electric heat pumps reduces carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to natural gas and heating oil, but today’s products are unable to generate the high-temperature water required to power hot water radiators – a system used by six million US homes. RenewaBoiler is designed to meet these requirements, even in frigid winter conditions.

“This award will allow us to validate the unique performance capabilities of our heat pump in real-world conditions,” said Joe Strommen, founder & CEO of 2040 Energy. “We were honored to be chosen by For ClimateTech and NYSERDA to receive this grant.”

RenewaBoiler is expected to enter production in late 2023. Interested homeowners can learn more and reserve their unit at www.2040energy.com.
